SC/ST panel chief Shankar Katheria visits home of Dalit youth Vinayakan

Vinayakan had committed suicide on July 18 after he was allegedly subjected to police torture.

Thrissur: National SC/ST  commission chairman Shankar Katheria  visited the house of  Dalit Youth Vinayakan  in Engandiyur on Thursday.  Vinayakan had committed suicide on July 18 after he was allegedly subjected to police  torture. Mr Katheria said that a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 will be given to  the mother of Vinayak and a government job  to a family member of the deceased youth.

He also handed over the first installment of Rs 4,12,500 of the Rs 8,25,000 to Vinayak’s family. He also visited Nirmal of Mukkattukara, a youth who is a victim  of political violence.  His mother would  also get a similar  pension and financial aid, he said.
