Hotel assn to take up issues such as food safety, sustainability and skilling.
Chennai: The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has decided to orient towards playing a constructive role in building “brand India.”
Probably, for the first time a hotel association has come forward to take up crucial issues such as food safety, sustainability and skilling.
According to Bharat Malkani, president of FHRAI, the Federation has completed 60 years and has decided to play a constructive role involving the building up of “Brand India.”
The existing educational infrastructure, FHRAI institute of hotel management, at Greater Noida would be utilised for delivering more skill-based programmes for the youth.
On the sustainability front, the Federation in close collaboration with National Green Tribunal, would bring out a white paper on sustainability relevant to the hospitality industry in the country. The federation would also take up the issue of food safety issues.
India’s image as a global investment destination is at all time high with China devaluing its currency and Europe continues to be under economic stress, Mr Malkani added.
Contending that Mexico made up for its deficit for oil revenues through tourism revenues by focusing on eco-tourism promotion at Cancun and Acapulco, Vivek Nair, Chairman of the 51st annual Convention Committee said the Centre too could adopt similar strategy to identify at least 10 destinations in India and develop them into model eco-tourism destinations to be marketed across the globe.
“Eco-tourism is the rage today and it is high time the government came
out with an eco-tourism policy for the country so that India could tap the potential of the long coastline, Himalayan ranges, forest cover, rich flora and fauna,” he emphasised.
