Four Drown to Death in Medak Lake
HYDERABAD: Four persons, including a six-year-old boy, drowned in a lake at Rangayapalli of Manoharabad of Medak district on Monday.
The police said that when a boy fell into the lake, his mother immediately jumped after him to save him, but failed and two more women, who were washing clothes in the vicinity, jumped to rescue the duo, but all of them drowned.
The deceased were identified as Lavanya, 19, Laxmi, 30, Balamani, 30, and her son Charan, 6. The police fished out the bodies of women, while a search was underway for the boy’s body.
Balamani, her son Charan and Laxmi, residents of Mulugu district were visiting the village and staying at relative Chandraiahi's residence to participate in the Bonalu festival on Sunday. The incident took place when the four persons, including Chandraiah's daughter Lavanya, went to the lake on Monday morning to wash clothes.
“When three women were washing clothes, Charan was learning how to swim. Suddenly, he went into deep water and drowned,” a police official said.
Upon being informed by locals, the police took the assistance of professional swimmers for a search but were unable to save them.
A case of suspicious death was registered by the police and bodies were shifted to Medak government hospital for post-mortem examinations.
