Kerala: Rs 10-crore boost for waste management project
A total of 20 acres has been given on lease for the project by the Corporation at Brahmapuram
Kochi: The waste-to-energy plant being set up for the corporation of Cochin by GJ Eco Power Limited at Brahmapuram has got a shot in the arm with industrialist Kochouseph Chittiappilly coming forward on Monday to invest Rs 10 crore in the Rs 375 crore project. Kochouseph who is in the forefront of the fight against the stray dog menace in the state said that he has identified waste as a reason for the proliferation of stray dogs and dealing with it in a scientific manner an important part in dealing with it.
GJ Eco Power plans to raise half of the amount for the project as bank loans and has already invested '6 crore and will make another investment of Rs 8 crore. “More investors are set to come in even from abroad and the gasification plant is expected to become operational in 2018 December. The new State Government has offered single window clearance for rest hurdles of the project,” said Giby George, Director of GJ Eco Power Limited at a press meet here.
“The project uses bio-drying and gasification which would rule out pollution. PVC would be recycled while plastic carry bags and likewise substance would be put to gasification,” said Giby. A total of 20 acres has been given on lease for the project by the Corporation at Brahmapuram . The plant will produce 10 MW of power. KSEB will buy the power. The plant is being set up on Design Build Finance Operate Transfer (DBFOT) basis. “The emission treatment system is supported by world-class emission controls which fully complies with the much stringent EU emission and pollution control guidelines,” said Mr. Stephan John, technical director of the company. . "The project will generate over 100 skilled jobs," said Mr. Giby George.
