#MeToo trends, but abuse won't stop

Hyderabad: Social media has become a means for threatening women in the most disgusting way. A city-based techie who recently posted that she wanted to learn sword fighting and wanted to know where in the city she could do so, was trolled and sexually abused on a group named Spread The Word Hyderabad.
She reported the incident and the administrator of the group removed the person from the group.
She was badly trolled and sexually abused on a group and many comments poured in soon after she posted her inquiry on Facebook. There were some people who stood against the abuser, but one girl who did so was herself stalked and got a huge number of abusive messages.
Nivedha Manogaran, the 25-year-old who works for a giant MNC in Hyderabad told this reporter, “I posted that I wanted to learn sword fighting as I am new to the city and wanted to take help from others who already know the city well.
Soon after I posted my inquiry in Spread the Word Hyderabad, some people started commenting and abusing me with very disgusting comments. First someone commented and asked me to call ‘Kattapa’ and later a guy named ‘Suraj Singh’ started posting abusive comments. After reading disgusting comments other guys also started making fun of me and started posting some bad comments on my post, though a few people interrupted and started raising their voice against the abusers.”
Varun Bandi, the admin of the group later posted some advice for group members. “We have deleted his comments and have banned him from the group.” Siddarth Rao, a member of Spread the Word is equally disturbed with the abusive comments.
“Women are harassed and trolled everywhere on social media. Spread the Word is a platform for various enquiries. One guy suggested joining an engineering college to learn sword fights. Women are not safe even on social media,” he added.
