Hyderabad witnesses 24 fire mishaps on Diwali

HYDERABAD: A fire broke out early on Tuesday at a plywood store in Musheerabad, which was doused by four fire tenders working for about six hours, The blaze was sparked by crackers, fire officials alleged. No one was injured in the incident.

A fire control room official said they received a distress call at 5: 58 am on Tuesday at SM Plywoods in Musheerabad.

Firefighters who rushed to the scene immediately, took until 12.30 pm to put out the flames. Officials said that firecrackers could have caused the fire and the property loss is being estimated.

Another incident involving firecrackers was reported on Monday at Motinagar, SR Nagar, resulting in the damage of a cellphone tower.

"The call regarding fire at an apartment was received on Monday at 10:31 pm. It was discovered that a Diwali rocket had exploded at the mobile tower on the terrace of the building. Two fire tenders from the Himayatnagar fire station were dispatched to the scene to put out the flames,” said officials.

The fire department officials said they received 27 distress calls on Monday in the state, including 24 in the GHMC area, related to firecrackers. None of them were major.
