HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Telangana High Court on Friday directed that notice be served on Kaloji Narayana Rao university of health in a writ petition challenging the enhancement of reservations to ST candidates that was made by the tribal welfare department in September. The writ petition was filed by Aleti Nipuna Reddy, an 18-year old student aspiring for a MBBS seat. Senior counsel Satyam Reddy, representing the petitioner, dubbed the government order passed in September as a "Munugode election GO". It was alleged that about 350 seats from the general pool had been taken away in favour of SC students. The petitioner complained that even after obtaining 383 rank, it would not be possible to get a seat in a city-based government medical college. The GO was issued post admission notification, conduct of examination and the announcement of results, it was stated. The petitioner claimed that this was illegal. The enhancement of reservations from six per cent to 10 per cent was done six years after a recommendation was made to the President, The bench, consisting of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and C.V. Bhaskar Reddy, listed it for December 9.
