Lovers from Karnataka attempt suicide, man dies

Anantapur: A woman from Karnataka, who were in a relationship, attempted suicide near Tungabhadra railway station in Mantralayam mandal in Kurnool district on Saturday. While the 29-year-old man identified as Ravi died while undergoing treatment, the woman, Netravati, 26, was battling for life at Yemmiganur Hospital.

Sources said that the locals identified the couple in an unconscious state near the railway station and alerted the Madhavaram police, who inspected the spot and identified the duo. Both were married separately and had children.

They eloped from neighbouring Karnataka and reached near Tungabhadra station where they consumed poison, said Madhavaram sub inspector Kiranbabu. A case was registered and the family members were informed about the incident. The body of Ravi was sent for post-mortem. An investigation was under way.
