Sub-registrar held by ACB ends life in Chennai

Anantapur: Bukkapatnam sub-registrar Srinivasa Naik, who fled from ACB custody after he was arrested while accepting a bribe from a farmer, has ended his life at a lodge in Chennai on Saturday. Chennai police informed the Bukkapatnam police about the suicide by the official on Saturday night.

The ACB team, led by Ananthapur DSP Venkatadri, had raided Bukkapatnam sub-registrar office in Satya Sai district on Thursday following a complaint by one farmer against the sub-registrar for demanding bribe from him to issue the registered document for his land though he completed all formalities required a few days ago.

The ACB team laid a trap and caught the sub-registrar and staff member red-handed while he was accepting '10,000 as a bribe. However, the sub-registrar fled from the ACB custody on Thursday night during the lunch break from the office at Bukkapatnam. The ACB team also registered a case against him for fleeing from its custody and launched hunt for him.

Shockingly, the official, who reached Chennai, ended his life at a lodge. Alerted by the lodge staff, the Chennai police identified the deceased as Srinivasa Naik and alerted Bukkapatnam police about the same, said the police.
