Chennai: Cold nights, mild showers for 2 days

Chennai: Following a depression in Bay of Bengal near Andaman, Chennai and other parts of the state are expected to receive light showers during the next two days, weather bloggers and the regional meteorological centre office here said on Saturday.

Kea weather and independent bloggers also hinted about cold nights during the Christmas and New year season and a dip in minimum temperature around 17 degree Celsius for the next few days.

According to Regional Meteorological Centre, dry weather prevailed over Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Lakshadweep, Kerala and Karnataka on Saturday.

Minimum temperature is likely to be appreciably below normal by 2 -4 degree Celsius at a few places over North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during next two nights. For Chennai city and neighborhood the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Maximum and minimum temperature is likely to be around 31 and 20 deg Celsius respectively, RMC said in a bulletin.

The minimum temperature is likely to dip at a few places over interior Karnataka, North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Rayalaseema and Telangana for the next two nights, the bulletin said.

“Low trough over South Andaman Sea is likely to move towards South West Bay of Bengal in the coming days. This is expected to trigger rains over Tamil Nadu after two days, particularly over coastal regions,” said a weather update post by Kea weather. Accu weather in its update hinted an increase in cloudiness for the next 48 hours.
