Hyderabad: The BRS, badly bruised after its loss in the Telangana state Legislative Assembly elections and finding itself in an unfamiliar role of an opposition party, is taking steps to revive its fortunes in the Lok Sabha elections next year.

As part of gearing up for what lies ahead, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday held a meeting with party leaders from Chevella Lok Sabha constituency to discuss plans for the coming polls. At present, G. Ranjith Reddy represents Chevella.

The party’s target in last elections was to win from 16 of the 17 LS seats in Telangana state. The lone seat that BRS was not keen on making serious efforts was Hyderabad, represented by Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of its ally, the AIMIM.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BRS, which went with the slogan ‘saaru, caru, padaharu (Sir, referring to party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, car, the party symbol, and 16 seats), managed to win nine seats in the state, followed by the BJP with four, the Congress three, and the AIMIM with one.

Meanwhile, Rama Rao called on party leaders not to get disheartened by the loss in the Assembly elections and candidates who lost the polls will be appointed in-charge for their respective constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections.

He said Assembly segment wise meetings in the Chevella LS constituency should be completed by January 26.
