Kozhikode to remain compassionate'
It is a unique movement and we will take it forward' says new collector
KOZHIKODE: With the exit of N Prasanth as district collector, what would be the fate of Compassionate Kozhikode project which has bagged much accolades for its social commitment and care for the poor? This has been a question raised by many as the project that gathered the status of a movement with involvement from hundreds of youngsters has been in out of the framework of governance.
The project enlivened by volunteers has been imparting its services to varied areas including ensuring by-standers for the needy at Medical College Hospital, chefs and volunteers to the kitchen of mental hospital, attending patients at mental hospital and cleaning and farming in the hospital premises, cleaning and beautifying the filthy walls of the dark city corners, bridging the gap between affluent good samaritans, thus addressing the needs of welfare institutions of government, ensuring tuition teachers for weak students at children's homes and food for the needy, to name few of the list.
The office of CK, earlier a puffing corner near the collector's chamber, has been converted into a beehive of activity with many bearded CK volunteers one after another joining with wild ideas, dreaming about big change in the society. Dr N Suresh Kumar who is coordinating the activities voluntarily, told DC that CK is a platform where those who want to do something for the society can work towards materializing his dream on a better world.
"The beauty of the movement was that it has been on without any iron rules and steel frames, serving the needy", he added. "We have already communicated with the new collector and will be sitting soon to think together on its future course under his guidance", he added. However District collector UV Jose told DC that CK would remain as it is. "There is no question on the future of CK which is a movement unique for Kozhikode", he said, adding that he will be sitting soon with the team to learn about its structure and design.
