Miraculous escape for medicos in Kurnool medical college
The students said despite complaints to college principal and health minister to take up repairing works, no attention has been paid.
Kurnool: Kurnool Medical College men's hostel inmates had a miraculous escape when the hostel room in which they were staying collapsed on the intervening night of Saturday.
However, no one was hurt. The men's hostel building, which was constructed some 50 years back, was neglected by the authorities, students say. No repair work was taken up as the ceiling was peeling off.
Several representations have been made to the college authorities to rectify the problem but it was not attended to, allege medical students. Out of 120 students 30 to 40 per cent of them are staying in the rooms. The two storied building has developed cracks and the iron bars had emerged out of the ceiling.
Despite several complaints to the college principal Dr Ram Prasad and health minister Kamineni Srinivas to take up repairing works, no attention has been paid, they said. The sudden collapse of the ceiling on the second floor shook the students and all of them ran to save their lives, it was said.
