More electronic voting machines for Ooty with Braille letters
The Nilgiris had already received 950 EVMs from Kolhapur district in Maharashtra in early January.
Ooty: With the election process underway, 298 additional electronic voting machines (EVM) have arrived here. Dr P. Sankar, the Collector of Nilgiris, said that these 298 EVMs which have been sent here from Coimbatore were received by officials in the presence of representatives of political parties at the additional collector’s office on Friday and they have been stocked in the office.
The Nilgiris had already received 950 EVMs from Kolhapur district in Maharashtra in early January. These were checked by technicians from the BHEL in the presence of representatives of political parties and stocked in safety. Round-the-clock security arrangements have been made around the room.
With the arrival of additional EVMs, the district has a sufficient number required for the elections in May. All EVMs contain Braille letters to enable the visually challenged to cast their votes, he said.
