Recruitment racket: Job in a company that wasn't
Aspirants beware of fake offers of employment abroad from seedy companies.
Hyderabad: Job aspirants in the city will now have to doubly verify the credentials of their potential employer organizations as fake agencies and fake recruitments with seedy companies are on the rise. This is especially true of aspirants seeking employment in foreign shores.
Mr. K Narsimhan Naidu, President, World Migrant Rights and Welfare forum says, “There are about 10 lakhs of people from the State of Telangana who are residing in the Gulf countries. Of these, 20 to 30 percent people are trafficked, under the pretext of giving them jobs.”
He added, “Most of the time the victims are from lower middle-class families, poor families and middle-class families. We cannot ask them to stop applying for jobs, but we can certainly track these illegal agencies who have been duping people.”
On asked about how these illegal agencies have been functioning, Mr. Naidu said, “Any group of persons who wish to set up this kind of agency for providing jobs overseas, need to have a certificate from the External Ministry of India.
However, people have been running these kinds of agencies from their homes and most of the time through travel agencies, passport agencies and other local offices without directly disclosing their activities to the people and police around.”
Most of the times in such cases, there is an oral commitment between the person who applies for the job and the agent. This leaves no physical proof with the applicants to put up a case against the person who cheats them.
“There are two ways in which applicants are cheated. First when the agents promise one form of job and when people go there, they are enrolled for a different kind of job with comparatively lesser salary. The second kind of duping is that they take the money from the applicants for VISA and then they go absconding,” added Mr. Naidu.
He added, “The police have not been taking much interest to work upon such cases. Most of the time they refuse to register the cases as there is no proof.”
On the other hand Gattu Mallu West Zone Task Force Inspector said, “We have been working on such cases as and when they come to us and after arresting them we have been handing them over to the concerned police station.”
