In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, tipplers are easy to lure, if there is an attractive price drop in the products of other brands whereas in Telangana, tipplers can be called hard core brand loyalists due to their nature of sticking to one brand.

Thrissur: All liquor outlets of the Beverages corporation and Consumerfed along with beer and wine parlours within the Thrissur  corporation limit will remain closed from  May 4 afternoon till May 6 noon in view of  the Pooram. Collector A. Kowsigan told reporters here on Tuesday  that helicams and jib cams would be banned in Thrissur town  from   ‘Kodiyettam’ on April 29 till May 6. The  Pooram will begin on May 5 morning with ‘cherupoorams’ reaching Vadakkumna- than temple and will end with the ceremonial ‘upacharam chollal’ (two elephants wishing each other by raising their trunks) on  May 6 noon. The fireworks will be held at 3 a.m. on May 6.

The sky above Thrissur town will remain a no-fly zone on May 5 and 6 for ensuring safety. Helicopters will not be allowed to fly above the Pooram venue. A giant LCD screen will be installed so that the Pooram buffs can watch the famous ‘Illanithara Melam.’ The samples of fireworks submitted by Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu had been tested by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) at Sivakasi. As per preliminary information, the PESO officials were satisfied with the samples. They  will oversee the preparation of the fireworks  by both the devaswoms and all the items need to carry a label citing the chemical used and that of the name of the licensees, the collector said.
