CM Pinarayi Vijayan vows to meet people's expectations

Colourful celebrations in the capital city mark the first anniversary of LDF government.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said called upon all to rise above political, caste and religious considerations to work the development of the state. Inaugurating the first anniversary celebrations of the LDF government here, the chief minister said his team would rise to people’s expectations and ensure development, social security, clean environment, people friendly health care, high-tech education facilities and roof over the heads of homeless. “We are not accountable to those who criticise us with a destructive mindset. Such forces will not deter us from working for the people instead it will further strengthen our resolve to deliver goods,” he said.

He admitted that people had huge aspirations from the LDF Government. “Our manifesto clearly reflects our vision about development. It is inclusive, social justice oriented and touching all sections of society,’ Pinarayi reiterated his government’s resolve to go ahead with NH development, GAIL pipeline by removing problems related to land acquisition, getting power from Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) and finding solution to the major challenges faced in environment, health, education and housing sectors through the four Mega Missions.

He said the government would give top priority to coastal high way, high range highway and state water way project. On KIIFB, he said the initiative would help the state to mobilise resources for implementing infrastructure projects. The chief minister congratulated Water Resources Minister Mathew T Thomas for getting Neyyar water to provide drinking water to Thiruvananthapuram city in the face of severe drought. Earlier the function began with an electrifying performance from noted violinist Balabhaskar who enthralled the packed audience at Nishagandhi auditorium with popular numbers.  The chief minister who arrived at 6 pm was greeted by his Cabinet colleagues, leaders of constituent partners and people from various walks of life.  Balabhaskar got down from the stage playing violin, greeted the chief minister creating a rock concert like feel at the venue.

The violinist played bali kudeerangale and chora veena mannil ninnu much to the liking of the crowd. After the welcome dance, the chief minister led all his colleges to the stage along with chief secretary Nalini Netto, legislators Koovoor Kunjumon and Vijayan Pillai. They lighted the traditional lamp. One thousand mud lamps were also lighted . Revenue Minister E Chandrashekharan presided over. Flashing stage lights and big screen in the backdrop, displaying images, added colour to the function.
