MLA P T Thomas bats for registration of day care centres

Kochi: A proper monitoring system is needed to observe the functioning of day care centres and play schools in the state, P.T Thomas MLA has said. While presenting a submission in the Assembly on Thursday he demanded that day care centres with no registration should not be allowed to function. “Day care centres are functioning with no restrictions and rules where toddlers and infants are being tortured physically and emotionally. The Social Justice Department and  Child Line officials are unable to effectively monitor such centres,” he said.

While replying to the submission, health minister K.K Shailaja said that at present the Social Justice Department is not providing any kind of registration to day care centres. The licence is being given by local bodies. “Department secretary has been instructed to form a committee for inspecting such centres and submit a report,” she said.
