All measures in place to face Yaas, officials tell Jagan

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday directed District Collectors and other officials to be on high alert and follow the updates of meteorological department and act accordingly in the Yaas cyclonic conditions.
Addressing a review meeting with the District Collectors of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam on the measures to be taken in the wake of Cyclone Yaas, he directed them to monitor the situation closely and help the needy without fail.
Chief Secretary Adityanath Das attended the review meeting from Srikakulam through video conference and explained the situation in the three districts. He said there was no major impact at present in Srikakulam district except little rain and added that all the higher officials were stationed in Srikakulam. He said all measures were taken ensuring no Covid patient was present in temporary buildings. Also, to ensure no shortage of oxygen, they arranged generators and diesel readily in case of interruption in power supply.
Srikakulam District Collector E Nivas said they were coordinating with Odisha officials and special teams were placed in Ichapuram so that if any problem arose in transportation of Oxygen tankers, it can be immediately addressed.
Vizianagaram District Collector Jawahar said no impact of the cyclone was seen in the district so far and they are well-prepared to deal with any event. He said all generators were arranged at 28 Covid hospitals in the district and added that enough diesel was available for four days. He said they even arranged gas cylinders in Covid care centers to ensure no shortage to food. Poles and transformers were also readily kept in case of any problem in power supply and added IMD alerts are being shared with mandal-level officers.

He said measures were being taken to ensure uninterrupted power supply to oxygen plants and cylinder filling plants. All precautionary measures were taken at 80 hospitals where Covid patients were being treated. Alternative preparations were also in place if power was disrupted, he added.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu, Agriculture Mission Vice Chairman M.V.S. Nagi Reddy, Agriculture Special Chief Secretary Poonam Malakondaiah, Agriculture Commissioner H. Aruna Kumar and other officials were present.
