Provide good education to girl child without bias: Official

VIJAYAWADA: Dr YSR University of Health Sciences Registrar Dr Vemireddy Radhika Reddy said that the development of society is possible only with the empowerment of women. The registrar was speaking at the Nari Ravali programme for women doctors organised by the Andhra Pradesh branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) at Mangalagiri on Sunday.  

Dr Radhika Reddy said as women are leading in various fields, their number is gradually increasing in the medical and healthcare sector also. She said many research and developments in medicine have been done by women. She stated that she was lucky to get an opportunity to serve at the YSR Health University, which is recognised globally. The official maintained that women are capable of doing anything at par with men, and asked parents not to show bias towards the girl child and provide good education to them which would help empower women.

IMA state president Dr Ravi Krishna said that those who chose the medical field serve society and it is a blessing as they are liked by everyone as a doctor. He mentioned that the IMA is adopting many villages in the state to provide medical services. The IMA has formed a section for women, organises programmes and encourages them to come forward and help the weaker sections of society, he added that more such events will be organised in future.

IMA state women's division president Dr G. Hemalatha presided over the function.

State president of Mission Pink and general secretary of Vijayawada IMA division, Dr P.V. Durga Rani said that cultural programmes for women doctors are being organised on Saturdays to provide mental and physical relief to women doctors who work under constant pressure.

IMA state general secretary Dr P. Phanidhar, treasurer Dr M. Rabindranath, women's department state secretary Dr Vasudha, treasurer Pratyusha, programme coordinators Dr Supraja, Dr CH. Keerthy, Dr Shama Sultana and others participated in the programme.
