TIRUPATI: Ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Prakasam district superintendent of police Malika Garg has announced cash incentives for individuals providing information about illegal trafficking and consumption of intoxicants, particularly ganja.

In a statement on Sunday, the SP underlined the destructive impact of substances like heroin, cocaine, and ganja on the human brain, leading to diminished cognitive abilities and criminal behaviour. She expressed concern over unscrupulous individuals prioritising monetary gain over the lives and future of young people.

Malika Garg asked students to pursue higher studies and build a bright future while steering clear of pitfalls associated with substance abuse. She warned that strict action will be taken against those illicitly supplying drugs and harming the lives of innocent individuals, especially youth and students.

The SP called on society to safeguard its members from the perils of drug abuse. To incentivise the fight against illicit drug activities, she announced that individuals providing information regarding transportation, sale and consumption of ganja and other illegal drugs anywhere in the district will be eligible for suitable cash rewards.

Malika Garg said such information can be immediately shared with local police, through 112 helplines, or via police WhatsApp number 91211 02266. The identity of the informants will be kept strictly confidential.
