Pondicherry CM makes surprise visit to govt offices
Directs authorities to issue memo to late comers.
PUDUCHERRY: A surprise visit by Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy to different departments on Monday morning took officials by surprise. After the inspection, he announced that bio-metric attendance system would be introduced in all offices shortly.
At the Amudha Surabhi cooperative store main branch and cooperative urban bank, the Chief Minister found that the employees had not come to office on time. Ninety nine per cent officials were absent at Amudha Surabhi office and 79 out of total 80 staff members failed to turn up on time at cooperative bank. Taking this as a serious issue, the Chief Minister announced the setting up of bio-metric attendance system in all offices.
Narayanasamy reached the Amudha Surabhi office around 9 am and directly went to the administration office. During his check, it was found that no one in the office was present at 9 am when the reporting time was 8.45 am. Later, he went to the textile wing and found that only two out of total eight staff members present. The staff who were present informed the Chief Minister that the shop used to open at 9.30 am.
Narayanasamy spoke to the registrar of cooperative societies and asked him to issue memos to the staff who were absent or late. “Sale in the textile unit is Rs 5,000 a day which will not be enough to pay salary to the staff members. In this backdrop, the official concerned was asked to issue memo to the staff who failed in performing the duties” said the CM. He was accompanied by welfare minister M. Kandasamy.
