Hyderabad: The restoration of the gopuram of the centuries-old Ammapalli Sita Ramachandraswamy Devasthanam, located about 5 km from the Shamshabad airport, has been taken up.

While there are no inscriptions to provide a timeline, legend has it that the temple was built during the time of Kalyani Chalukyas. The Eastern Kalyani Chalukyas ruled over the region between the seventh and 12 century AD.
C.S. Rangarajan, head priest of Chilkur Balaji temple, visited the Ammapalli temple to find out the status and reviewed the restoration work.

He said, “The gali gopuram is a magnificent work of art that rises 80 feet into the air. Though similar to the ones in Hampi and Tirupati, this one is leaner and is a combination of limestone plaster, baked bricks and stucco. I am personally and physically involved with the skilled artisans working slowly to restore the images.”
