HYDERABAD: Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after the success of Operation Vijay, was celebrated with enthusiasm at Veerula Sainik Smarak. The event was organised by Headquarters Telangana & Andhra Sub Area.

In commemoration of the 24th anniversary of the historic victory, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at Veerula Sainik Smarak, Army Parade Ground. Officers and soldiers, adorned with their medals representing their achievements in the service of the nation, paid tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defending the Republic.

The wreath was laid by Major General Rakesh Manocha, the General Officer Commanding, HQ Telangana & Andhra Sub Area, who also served as the chief guest for the occasion.

On July 26, 1999, India successfully recaptured the high outposts that had been occupied by Pakistani intruders during the Kargil War. Every year, on July 26, 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' is celebrated to honor the heroes of the Kargil War.
