Bengaluru doctor makes it to MIT's innovators list

Bengaluru: "I was thrilled when I got a call from the MIT team to inform me that I was selected as an innovator under thirty-five by MIT's team," says 32-year-old Dr Jagdish Chaturvedi. He is an ENT surgeon working as a consultant with a few private hospitals in the city.
The MIT technology review selects 35 innovators at a global level every year, each in a different category. Dr Jagdish was recognised in the humanitarian category. "I was informed by the technology review team that I got nominated by a lot of people. It made feel really good that my work was recognised by them and also the Technology Review," he adds.
With more than ten years as a clinician behind him, Dr Jagdsh was a Stanford-India Biodesign (SIB) Fellow in 2012, and holds an MBA degree in Entrepreneurship and Hospital Management (NIBM, 2013).
"After completing my fellowship I came back to my country with a plan to make surgical devices more affordable.”
His core expertise lies in the process of identifying and analyzing unmet clinical needs for quick development of low-cost and high quality medical devices. He also teaches and trains the bio-design process. "I was involved in the making of 18 medical devices. About 10 of them are actively moving towards development and commercialisation and some are already in the market," he adds.
"This recognition I have been given would most certainly catalyse more doctors and entrepreneurs to make medical devices that would suit the Indian market and be more affordable," he said.
