BJP starts Swacch Bharat mission to clean up Kozhikode beach

There was a controversy over the garbage left behind in the city after mega events.

Kozhikode: In answer to widespread protests over the pollution accumulated on the beach after the BJP national council, BJP workers has  launched a cleaning drive on the city beach on Sunday night to remove the waste. Though there was an attempt by the children’s wing of the National Council organizing committee and Yuva Morcha to clean the beach, it did not yield results. Newspapers, plastic bottles, plastic covers of snacks and other publicity material are still scattered around the beach.

It is to be recalled that there was a controversy over the garbage left behind in the city after mega events.  A few CPM members also alleged that BJP workers were fixing advertising material across  the city even violating the existing norms and regulations. BJP district president TP Jayachandran told DC that there was an attempt to clean the beach but the announced cleaning drive would begin on Monday. Party workers would ensure that the entire waste accumulated in the aftermath of the  national council would be removed, he said. “It is our duty to ensure that the city is clean after our programme”, he added.
