CM Pinarayi Vijayan writes to minister on railway mishaps

Mr Vijayan also listed out issues like shortage of water and light in long-distance service trains.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a letter to Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday requested him to intervene and ensure immediate steps to increase the security of railway passengers who have been vulnerable because of the frequent cracks in railway tracks in the state. Mr Vijayan, who sent the letter in the wake of the three train accidents in the last two months, pointed out that measures were needed to solve the concerns of the train passengers in the state.

It should be recalled that the engine of the Maveli Express going from Mangalore to Thiruvanthapuram caught fire near Cheruvathur station in Kasargod on August 13. Mr Vijayan also listed out issues like shortage of water and light in long-distance service trains. The issues relating to the cleanliness of coaches and the use of outdated and rusted coaches were also pointed out in the letter.
