Aligarh: A senior professor at Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh Muslim University died on Tuesday after waiting for nearly six hours for an ambulance to shift him to another hospital.
According to reports, the Professor D Murthy was a cancer patient and died at the University’s hospital as the authorities there could not arrange for an ambulance after it was recommended that he be shifted to a hospital in Delhi.
The 64-year-old professor was the head of the Department of Modern Indian Language in the university and had undergone a surgery on Sunday. His condition however deteriorated after the operation and the doctors at the campus advised that he be sent to Delhi.
Teachers of the university have alleged negligence on the part of the authorities which led to the delay in paper work that was needed for shifting the professor.
"An ambulance wasn't available. There was no coordination within the hospital. What was the need to fill up the form?" a spokesperson of the university said.
Professor Murthy had been on ventilator support and a special ambulance was required to shift him, but an ambulance did not arrive as the professor awaited help.
