NELLORE: Prakasam district police department cracked a lorry theft case within 24 hours of registering it and detained a juvenile involved in the crime. A GPS installed in the lorry came in handy and helped them keep a tab on the movements of the vehicle worth Rs 12 lakh.

It was a coordinated effort by the IT core team, the integrated police control room staff and two special teams formed by superintendent of police Siddharth Kaushal.

The teams led by Markapuram deputy superintendent of police G. Nageswara Reddy, Yarragondapalem circle inspector Deva Prabhakar and Dornala sub-inspector V. Hari Babu recovered the lorry.

According to Kaushal, a complaint was lodged at Dornala police station on October 24 about the theft of the lorry. He formed special teams and directed the Markapuram CI to inquire about the whereabouts of old offenders at the time of the crime. Yarragondapalem, Tripuranthakam, Dornala, Markapuram, Vinukonda, Donakonda, Darshi and Kurichedu police stations were duly alerted.

While the integrated control room in-charge R. Rambabu concentrated on CCTV footage, the IT core team, led by sub-inspector Nayab Rasool, focused on tracking the movement of the vehicle with GPS tracking system. The technical teams located the vehicle and alerted the Yarragondapalem CI, who rushed to the area.

They seized the lorry and took the juvenile into custody late Sunday night at Vellatur village, Vinukonda mandal, Guntur district. The SP appreciated all those involved in tracing the vehicle and arresting the accused within 24 hours.
