HYDERABAD: The Telangana state irrigation department has yet again urged the Krishna River Management Board to restrain Andhra Pradesh from unauthorised constructions and expansion of various projects on the river in its state. In a letter to the KRMB, the state irrigation engineer-in-chief C. Muralidhar said the works taken up by Andhra Pradesh that involve large diversions “will seriously affect the needs of Krishna basin areas of Telangana from Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs”.

He said all the unauthorised constructions related to the Galeru Nagari Srujala Sravanthi, Handri Neeve Srujala Sravanthi, Kurnool-Cuddapah Canal, Pothireddypadu project, Telugu Ganga, Veligonda projects among others taken up by Andhra Pradesh, were taken to KRMB’s notice repeatedly by Telangana state but no action has been taken so far.

Muralidhar said the diversion of water for these projects and allocations were under dispute and until the disputes are resolved, all construction activity must be stopped by the board.
