District cops initiate releasing seized cash

Hyderabad: Police officials have initiated the process of releasing seized cash, based on submission of records and related documents, following directives issued by the Election Commission of India. District police officials said they have set up a grievance cell at district Collectors’ offices to verify the source of the seized cash and release the same.

As part of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), Jogulamba Gadwal district Superintendent of Police Ritiraj took measures to release seized cash based on submission of related documents.

On October 25, the police seized Rs 9,89, 750 during regular checks and handed over Rs 6,89,750 to the District Election Grievance Committee.

“No one shall carry more than Rs 50,000 as the election code is in force. If they do, they shall carry appropriate receipts and documents along with their details," the SP said.

Ritiraj advised the traders of gold shops and those transporting gold for business to carry the relevant receipts. The SP convened a meeting with the gold traders and made suggestions so that they do not face any problems.

She said gold and cash without proper receipts will be handed over to the District Election Grievance Committee if they are caught during police checks.
Similarly, the Vikarabad police also set up a grievance cell to collect seized money. Superintendent of Police N. Koti Reddy said the police officers would seize the money if anyone carried cash of more than Rs 50,000 without documents. The money will be seized and receipt will be given to the concerned persons immediately.

"When more than Rs 10 lakh is seized, it is sent to the Income Tax department. The concerned persons can show the documents related to their money to the Income Tax department and get their money back. When the police officers seize money less than Rs 10 lakh, the concerned people can show the
documents to the officials of the District Grievance Committee located in the district collectorate office and get their money back," Koti Reddy said.

The SP further said that so far, Rs 1,19,10,670 has been seized in the district, and called upon people to cooperate with the police officers and contact +91 88869 11888 to reach the District Grievance Committee to get their seized cash back.
