CM Pinarayi Vijayan lambasts criminals' in force
Gap emerges between cops and people'
Thrissur: There are a section of officers in the Kerala Police who showed criminal inclinations and dared to do things which people normally did not do, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. He was speaking at the Kerala Police Academy at Ramavarmapuram here on Friday after attending the guard of honour of the fresh batch of women police officers and sub-inspectors. As many as 370 women civil police officers and 36 SIs were inducted into the police force at the event.
The CM said that to rectify the issues related to the criminal tendencies shown by a minority of cops in the force, the government was closely monitoring the training programmes given to them. “The police need to be with the public, but there has been a gap building between the cops and people. The strength of women officers in the force will be raised to 15 per cent. Technology will be effectively used to control crime and more CCTV cameras will be installed in critical locations in the state,” CM added.
