Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram district sessions court has stayed the arrest of seven BJP councillors, who allegedly assaulted Mayor V.K. Prasanth on November 18, till November 30, the day when their anticipatory bail application will be heard. The order, passed by sessions judge K. Haripal, was in response to an interlocutory application by the seven councillors whose names were listed in the ‘attempt to murder’ case.

The petitioners are V.G. Girikumar, Vijayakumar V., Kodunganoor Hari, K. Anilkumar, V. Giri, Beena R.C. and R. Sanil Kumar. They filed an application for anticipatory bail, this week. The police case diary has to be submitted on Monday. While the interim order seemed favourable to the BJP councilors, it need not be indicative of the court’s decision on anticipatory bail, said BJP’s V.G. Girikumar.  Mayor Prasanth could not be reached for comment. Deputy mayor Rakhi Ravikumar refrained from making any comments as the matter was subjudice.
