Hyderabad: A major fire broke out at the Madannapet vegetable market last night due to a short circuit. Around 15 to 20 stalls were gutted leading to a loss of Rs 5 lakh.

Station fire officer (SFO) D. Tirupati said, “The entire area in front of the stalls was burnt and the vegetables destroyed. It took us almost three hours to put out the fire. The short circuit was recorded by CCTV cameras at the market.”
He added, “The plastic and paper boxes used for storing vegetables spread the fire. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.”

The fire left the vendors in despair. “It’s a huge loss. Business is down due to summer and now we have suffered losses,” Vijaya-laxmi, a vendor, said.
