KOZHIKODE: After the long wait, the pink patrol brigade will start their first run in the city today, with two cars, entirely managed by female police officers. Already 24 lady officers were trained for the ‘Pink Patrol’ project aimed at ensuring the rights and safety of women in public places, along with two vehicles in the city. The pink patrol will be flagged off on the control room premises at 8 am.  Half of the all-women team are trained drivers also.

They will patrol on KSRTC and private stage carriers and will be present at bus stops, schools, colleges and other public places. The patrol cars are equipped with GPS tracking devices as well as cameras installed on the front and rear sides. The camera sends continuous visuals to the control room. An officer from control room can inspect them in real time and deploy additional forces to various areas whenever necessary. The chief minister made the statewide launch of the project in November.
