Hyderabad: May could turn out cooler'
Weather sites peg May at 40ºC, IMD forecasts rain.
Hyderabad: After a scorching April, May might not be so bad. Weather sites are forecasting maximum temperatures of 40ºC for most days in May, which is traditionally seen as the hottest month of the year. The heat eases off towards the latter half, according to the websites, with most days being partly cloudy or experiencing rain.
IMD Hyderabad assistant meteorologist M. Narsimha Rao said, “IMD issues forecasts only for seven days, not for an entire month. The month of May usually sees cyclones. Every second or third day will see thunderstorms; the temperatures will be the highest toward May end or June first week.”
“Hyderabad’s highest was on June 2, 1966, at 45.4ºC. May will have severe thunderstorms. The temperatures won’t see a major drop,” he said.
The website accuweather.com states that May will witness six days of thunderstorms and five days of partly cloudy skies. Former IMD director, Vizag, J.V.N. Naidu said, “Pre-monsoon activity has started in Telangana and showers can be expected till June first week; now and then the state will experience thunderstorms.”
