GAD, revenue wing get notice for denotifying vacancies
HYDERABAD: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji, on Thursday issued notice to the general administration and revenue departments on a writ plea filed by E. Venu and 24 others stating that the government had deliberately denotified 1,294 vacancies in the office of the chief commissioner of land administration. Senior counsel B. Rachna Reddy, appearing for the petitioners, said that applications were invited to fill up the posts without providing an opportunity to the petitioners though they had served in the revenue department for about 10 years. The bench was not inclined to give any interim order considering that recently a batch of VRO matters had been reserved for orders. The matter was adjourned for the government to file its counter.
Rape accused gets bail
Justice C. Sumalatha of the Telangana High Court on Thursday granted bail in a rape case on a petition filed by Tejavath Kotesh, an accused. It was contended that the petitioner introduced himself to the victim who was attempting to write competitive exams. They got to know each other and had physical intimacy. When the girl proposed to solemnise the relationship with marriage, he refused. The victim filed a complaint with the KPHB police station. The prosecution stated that 15 witness statements have been recorded and that the investigation was underway. The judge after hearing the public prosecutor granted conditional bail. The petitioner has been asked to execute a bond for ₹50,000 and deposit two sureties.
HC grants bail to person accused of embezzlement
The Telangana High Court on Thursday granted bail in a case of fraud. Justice C. Sumalatha was hearing a petition filed by Pankaj Saraswat Gagan, who was accused of alleged fraud in a matter with Cyberabad police. It was contended that a fake website was established in the name of an eatery for which the petitioner was recruited as a telecaller. An amount of ₹90 lakh was embezzled of which the petitioner had no knowledge. The judge allowed the petition by granting bail to the petitioner executing a bail bond for ₹50,000.
Mother denied custody of the teen child
A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Thursday refused to give custody of a minor child to the mother. The bench was dealing with a habeas corpus writ petition. The bench of Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Pulla Karthik heard the plea filed by a woman, the mother of the detenue, to produce her 17-year-old, who has been in a hostel based on the child welfare committee's report. It was contended that the child was a victim under the provisions of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The police produced the child before the court. The minor told the court that his mother was instrumental in the offence. The bench closed the writ petition by granting interim custody to the maternal uncle and granted liberty to the petitioner to pursue the issue in the appropriate court.
