Kerala: Smart energy scheme in CBSE, ICSE schools too
The activities will begin in the district with a sensitisation camp for teachers.
KOZHIKODE: The smart energy programme (SEP) envisaged by Energy Management Centre (EMC), which has already proved a success in state schools in creating awareness among students from an early stage on conservation, will soon be visible in other Board schools. The 50 best students from each school can join SEP that so far has nearly 5,500 students as its members statewide. The activities will begin in the district with a sensitisation camp for teachers.
“SEP is one of the flagship projects of EMC formed for curbing energy wastage through active measures and also popularising energy conservation and efficiency improvement among students,” explained N. Sijesh, its district coordinator. “So far the project was in the domain of state schools, and from this academic year, it will be visible in CBSE, ICSE and other private schools. The project views energy conservation as the preservation of nature itself.”
The camp at the initial level for teachers aims to provide guidance on how to carry out different SEP activities. Selected students who developed innovative projects will get an opportunity to do the internship at power plants, dairies or textiles.
