Local tomato varieties reach Pathikonda market

Kurnool: Following a noticeable surge over the past two months, tomato prices have started to decline in the recent days. The tomato procurement season has kicked off at the Pathikonda Agricultural Market Yard in Kurnool district, commencing on Friday. Approximately 80 quintals of tomatoes were brought to the market by farmers on the first day of procurement.
The auction saw varying prices for different tomato grades: lower-quality tomatoes sold for under '1,000 per quintal, medium-quality ones were priced at '1,500 per quintal and top-quality tomatoes fetched '2,200 per quintal.
On Saturday, a total of 70 quintals of local tomato varieties were presented in the market. The prices were as follows: base quality tomatoes were tagged at '1,500 per quintal, medium-quality ones were valued at '2,250 per quintal, and premium-grade tomatoes were on sale at '3,000 per quintal, K Srinivasulu, the secretary of the Agriculture Market Yard told media.
