During the drill, the participating units will be divided into two groups with one simulating an attack force and the other defending the coast.
Chennai: A 2-day joint coastal security exercise, Sagar Kavach, for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will be organised by the Coast Guard, involving fishermen and all the other state and Central security agencies, on September 28 and 29.
The exercise will involve Coast Guard, Navy, Coastal Security Group, administrations of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and the Fisheries Department, including the Marine Enforcement Wing, according to sources.
Fishermens associations and communities of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Intelligence Bureau, Customs, Chennai Port Trust, Director General of Light House and Light Ships are also to participate in the drill.

"The exercise is to test the security apparatus along the coast and to revalidate the standard operating procedures by way of carrying them out during attacks with a focus on protecting the vital installations located coast-to-coast," an official from coastal security group which will be the nodal agency for the state.
