Vijayawada: AP Southern Power Distribution Company and AP Eastern Power Distribution Company chairman-cum-managing director Santhosha Rao said on Tuesday they were fixing smart meters for agriculture power connections to ensure supply of quality power and avoid transmission loss.

In a statement here, the CMD said the fixing of smart meters would also help farmers find out how much would be their power consumption and based on it, they would install transformers of required capacity.

He said that as the farmers consume power for farm works, the state government would find out the number of units consumed by the farmers and the power charges would be remitted into the bank accounts of the farmers. Such money would be transferred directly to the Discoms from the accounts of the farmers.

He said that in order to supply quality power to farmers, “We installed feeders at a cost of `1,700 crore and even the burnt-out transformers are being replaced within 48 hours with new ones.”
