Chennai: Six-yr-old girl killed in road mishap, six injured

Chennai: A collision involving a diesel-run auto-rickshaw and a government bus on Palar Bridge near Kancheepuram, killed a six-year-old and injured six others on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Kavya, (6) who was traveling with her father Vijay, her brother Santhosh, and her extended family members Mani, Palani, Sakthivel, and Vishwa.
The family was traveling by the auto-rickshaw towards Sengampoondi village near Sevili Medu near Cheyyar, at around 11 pm when the mishap occurred. The auto-rickshaw climbed on the Palar Bridge when the bus plying to Kancheepuram from Tiruvannamalai veered off to the incoming lane, and rammed into the auto-rickshaw, reducing it to mangles.
Kavya was killed on the spot. The injured were rushed to Kancheepuram GH for treatment. Later, Kancheepuram taluk police moved the body of Kavya to the GH for autopsy.
Vijay, resident of Tambaram, who has returned after completing his pilgrimage on Sunday, decided to visit his parents living in Cheyyar, and to hand them out the prasadam from Sabarimala. He took his friend Sakthivel's auto-rickshaw. He took his daughter, and son along with his other relatives for the trip when the mishap occurred.
A case has been registered by Kancheepuram taluk police station, and the bus driver Kandavel, (41) was arrested.
