Bengaluru: City Mayor Gangambike, who often talks of retrieving garden city’s lost glory, was stunned with heaps of garbage at K.R. Market.

A massive clean-up drive in association with a group of volunteers, under the banner The Ugly Indians, targeted the blackspots in and around historical K.R. Market with paints, brushes and brooms.

Before the drive, when the Mayor visited K.R. Market she was welcomed by heaps of garbage and stray cows feeding them.

Gangambike lost her cool as this was not the first time she was witnessing this mess. Every time she inspected the market she kept on directing officials to clear it, but they seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

But on Sunday, an agitated Mayor directed the officials to come up with permanent solution and slap fines on shops who violate garbage disposal norms.

Along with the volunteers from Ugly Indians, the Mayor also painted the pillars of the Sirsi circle flyover. It has become a black spot with visitors urinating below the flyover.

Vendors in the vicinity said that BBMP should not just paint and leave it at that. They should slap fines on people who urinate and throw garbage below
the flyover.
