Anti-drug campaign at Amrita University

KOLLAM: An anti-drug campaign aimed at youngsters and initiated by the Kerala Police Officers’ Association was launched on the Amrita University campus,  Vallikkavu here, on Monday. Kerala coastal police ADGP Tomin J. Thachankary,  who inaugurated the campaign,  said that 70 percent of road accidents in the state were occurring due to the proliferation of alcohol, drugs, and narcotics.

Kollam city police commissioner Dr. Sathish Bino, who inaugurated a  baseline survey on the topic, said   the crimes and deadly diseases were increasing due to alcohol consumption and drug abuse. “The students should take a pledge not to use them,” he said.  He also cautioned about the use of social media applications like WhatsApp and Facebook.
