Even though the state Cabinet took the decision to release 1,850 prisoners, Governor P Sathasivam refused to accord sanction.
Thrissur: A Sub-inspector with AR Camp at Ramavarmapuram, who was also in-charge of the cyber cell, was suspended on Monday by Thrissur Range IG M R Ajith Kumar for putting up a Whatsapp post against the reported decision of the state government to commute the sentence of 1,850 prisoners. The officer Roy C George had circulated a message along with the paper cutting of a newspaper about the government’s decision to release prisoners before their jail team ended.
Besides that, he had mentioned in the post that while goons were flourishing in the state, the CPM government had decided to free 1,850 prisoners. Even though the state Cabinet took the decision to release 1,850 prisoners, Governor P Sathasivam refused to accord sanction. The decision of the governor had sparked off a controversy recently with the government receiving flak for taking such a decision. Acting on the inquiry and report on the Whatsapp message filed by city police commissioner, the police officer was issued the suspension order for breaching the discipline of the force by the IG.
