HYDERABAD: Right-wing outfits waylaid a police vehicle and attacked 41-year-old Bairi Naresh, who made several derogatory remarks about Hindu deities, in Gopalapuram of Hanamkonda on Monday.

Inspector P. Dayakar said Naresh recently enrolled to a course at Adarsha Law College and was attending a freshers’ party on Monday, when his advocate Bandi Mogili informed him that members of the RSS and Bajrang Dal were waiting outside his college to attack him.

Naresh immediately called the police, following which officers managed to protect him and escort him in their vehicle.

However, RSS and Bajrang Dal members chased the vehicle and blocked it at Sammaiahnagar near Gopalapuram crossroads. The police were outnumbered and right-wingers managed to enter the vehicle to assault Naresh. The victim received minor injuries and was shifted to the Kakatiya University police station immediately, the police said.
