Hyderabad: Dr Mazheruddin Ali Khan, who was found dead along with a gun at his residence in Banjara Hills on Monday, died by suicide, the police said on Tuesday, citing that his bedroom door was the only access point and that it was latched from the inside.

A team of seven doctors who conducted the post-mortem examination informed the Banjara Hills police that the victim had suffered a bullet wound at point-blank range. A .32 calibre bullet was recovered from the body and handed to the police and was passed on to the Forensics Science Laboratory (FSL).

A doctor who was involved in the autopsy, requesting anonymity, said, “It’s a clear case of suicide, there is no doubt. We are not supposed to give it in writing as the samples have been sent to the FSL. Unless we get the FSL report, we cannot give the post-mortem report.”

While a FSL report takes around 45 days, the report, in this instance, will be given in two to three weeks as it is a high-priority case, an FSL official said.

“We have recorded the statements of the victim's family members, security guards, and friends and learnt that Dr Khan, for a long time, was distressed over family-related issues,” a senior police officer said.

“Nothing suspicious has been observed or revealed, either by the victim's family member or his workers. We also verified the CCTV cameras, but found no strange or suspicious activity,” he said.

Sources, however, said Dr Khan was insulted by a few relatives recently, due to which he might have taken the step.
