KAKINADA: As many as six candidates were left in the fray for MLC elections linked to the local bodies category in West Godavari district on the last day of the nomination on Monday.

As many as eight candidates have filed 15 nominations. The nomination of independent candidate Nalli Rajesh was rejected in scrutiny and another independent candidate Vanka Rajakumari withdrew her nomination.

Joint collector Arun Babu, who is the district election returning officer, said that two candidates from the YSRC -- Kavuru Srinivas and Vanka Ravindranath -- and four independents, namely Veeravalli Chandrasekhar, Devarapallil Adam, Gorinka Dasu and Pasala Venkatachalam were in the election fray after the deadline for withdrawal.

The election would be held from 8 am to 4 pm on March 13 at Eluru, Jangareddygudem, Kovvuru, Narsapuram and Bhimavaram MPDO offices.

YSRC candidate for the MLC local body poll, Kudipudi Suryanarayana, was unanimously elected. Joint collector and election returning officer Ilakkiya handed over the election form to Suryanarayana. Kakinada MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy, Kakinada Lok Sabha member Vanga Gita, Rajamahendravaram MP M Bharat and others were present.
