Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital to implement PMSSY soon
Second superspecialty block to be constructed under the central govt scheme.
KOZHIKODE: Finally after four years of waiting, the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital is all set to implement the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), a scheme that aims at the overall development of 9 selected medical college hospitals in the country. A second super specialty block at MCH was the major project envisaged at MCH here, after the union cabinet sanctioned Rs 125 crore in addition to the Rs 25 crore contribution of the State Government. On May 2, Jagat Prakash Nadda, the central Minister for Health, will inaugurate the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the second super specialty block at MCH here.
Kozhikode MCH will be among the nine MCHs in the country selected for PMSSY. At the same time, Kozhikode MCH is the only hospital in the State selected for the scheme as the hospital is a referral for patients from six districts in the Malabar region. “The project was supposed to be started four years ago but the design of the super specialty block had to be revised and resubmitted to the State Government several times”, said Medical College Principal Dr V.P Sasidharan. “But once the foundation stone ceremony is done, the rest of the works will move faster and we are expecting to complete the works in 18 months. It was during 2009, the then principal and other officials and politicians actively participated in submitting a proposal for the scheme to the central government”, he added.
As per the plan, the hospital will witness a massive facelift which includes a centralized ICU, 24 hours laboratory, casualty with the latest technology equipment, advanced blood bank, special clinics for emergency medicine, family medicine, Neonatology, Immuno Haematology and Transfusion medicine, a special centre for bio-chemistry, pathology and microbiology, new hostels and canteens and other facilities for the people.
