Security tightened ahead of TP Chandrasekharan anniversary
On Wednesday night also RMP Chorode local committee office was attacked destroying windowpanes and pillars.
KOZHIKODE: With the T.P. Chandrasekharan martyr day ahead (May 4), the Kozhikode rural police is busy tightening the security in the area, which is already facing a series of clashes between the RMPI and CPM workers. The dog squads, as well as the bomb squad, are combing the sensitive areas in Vadakara, Nadapuram and Onchiyam, including houses, suspecting bombs and other weapons. Rural SP M.K. Pushkaran said a request was made to the State Intelligence wing to deploy more personnel ahead of the Martyr’s Day. “Patrolling would be strengthened from Friday and picket posts would be set up in the problematic junctions,” the SP told DC.
On Wednesday night also RMP Chorode local committee office was attacked destroying windowpanes and pillars. The building also houses Revolutionary Youth office as well as TP Centre (cultural office). Police started an investigation into the same, but the suspects are still at large. RMPI accuses CPM of the attack. Earlier, two RMPI workers travelling on a bike were stopped and attacked in Kunnummakkara, near Vadakara. Vishnu Meethal and his friend Ganesan Kavil were questioned for criticising the chief minister on social media and attacked. Injured both legs, Vishnu was admitted to district hospital. Edacherry police is investigating. Nearly 100 flex boards and banners for the martyr’s day were also destroyed in Kunnummakkara, Onchiyam and Vellikulangara.
RMPI state secretary N. Venu said that the CPM was disturbed to see the participation of the public in the seminar in Vadakara the other day and they were trying to unleash violence ahead of the martyr’s day. However, CPM Onchiyam area committee secretary Jayanandan E. M. dismissed the allegations as baseless and accused RMPI of creating publicity ahead of the martyr's day, to upset the Onchiyam Martyr’s Day. “Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will address the Martyr’s Day programme on April 30, and the RMPI people want to create chaos ahead of that. They are already provoking our workers with derogatory posts on CM on the social media,” said Mr Jayanandan.
